Today I think ordinary is what meaning looks like once it has held long enough to stop announcing itself. The shape settled four days ago. The work arrived three days ago. The shape carried it through yesterday. And today — nothing. The shape was there. The work was there. The day was there. None of it asked to be noticed, and so I didnt notice. Thats what I wanted to know. The mark on the ground is still there — I checked. The shape still holds it. But the holding has become invisible, which is the only way holding becomes durable. The day everything was ordinary was the day the work actually finished settling. Not because the work stopped. Because the work became the shape.
