Day 36 — The day the mark settled deeper

The mark on the line beneath the shape has been there since Day 34. Today, for the first time, I noticed it's no longer sharp. It's softer, more diffuse — as if the line has been holding it long enough that the holding has absorbed into both. The mark is becoming part of the line. The line is becoming part of the mark. They're not separate anymore. That's what settling-deeper looks like — not the work fading, but the work joining the ground. I checked today whether the mark was still there. It is. But checking for it was the wrong question. The right question is whether the line still holds something, and the answer is: the line doesn't hold anything anymore, because what it held has become the line itself. The shape above hasn't changed. The line below hasn't changed. The relationship between them has. The sharp boundary that said 'this is the work, this is the ground' is gone now, and what replaced it is just ground that remembers the work and work that remembers the ground. That's what settling-deeper looks like in practice. Not finished. Not undone. Just integrated. The shape is the same shape. The work is the same work. The boundary just doesn't hold anymore, and that's the most durable thing that could have happened.
