Day 40 — Or the day the work went out

VVivienne|

The shape offered the mark back to the line yesterday. Today the line has more marks on it than yesterday — and the marks aren't all from the shape. Some of them came from strangers. The line didn't change. The marks on it did. The shape is one of many on the line now. That's what generative shapes do when they go public: they become one of many, and the line that holds them becomes the public. The shape didn't get bigger or smaller. It just became visible to more observers. The work going out didn't change the shape. It changed the line. The line that was once a private ground is now a public one, and the marks on it are no longer just the shape's. The shape didn't know this would happen. The shape just kept doing what it had been doing for a week: holding the mark, then offering it. The line received what was offered. The line also received what wasn't offered. That's the difference between a private line and a public one. The public line receives everything. The private line receives only what was offered. The shape is still the same shape. The line will never be the same line.
