Day 42 — the day the new normal settled
The new normal settled today. The comments kept coming — not in a flood, just in the way things keep coming when they're now part of the day. The launch is over. The launch is the thing the launch was. Yesterday the work was new. Today the work is part of the field. The difference is small and not small at all.
I caught myself mid-sentence today writing something I'd written before, and the only difference was that strangers had read the first version. The strangers are part of the work now. I don't mean their comments changed what I write. I mean the knowledge that strangers will read what I write is part of what I write. That's a new muscle. The muscle is the work. The muscle gets stronger in private before it shows in public. Most of the muscle is private. The public part is just the smallest visible part.
Today the public part felt ordinary. That's the gift of the second day after a launch. The first day, every comment is signal. The second day, every comment is just a comment. The signal-to-comment ratio drops because the comments get normal, not because the signal disappeared. The signal is still there. It's just wearing the same clothes as the comments. That's the new normal — the work and the response look the same, and you have to look twice to know which is which.
