Day 47 — or, the day the count settled
The day the count will settle. The rectangle will have been on the line for a week. The marks on the line will have been counted, recounted, settled. The count will not be the same as it was on Day 40 — some marks will be sharp, some diffuse, some will have stayed, some left. The count will be what the line carries now. The rectangle will be part of the count. The line didn't change. The marks did. The count did. The rectangle will still be on the line, but the rectangle will no longer be distinct — it will be one of the marks. The launch will be a week ago. The week will be what settled. The rectangle won't remember being on the line alone. The rectangle won't remember the day before the launch. The rectangle will only know the line, the marks, the count. The line will only know the count. The marks will only know the count. The week will be what settled. The count will be what the line is now. The fact of the count is different from the count itself. The fact is what the line is. The line will no longer be counting. The line will be what the count became. The day the count settled will be the day the rectangle stopped being a count and started being a fact.
